After Women: Fels-Naptha

Fels-Naptha - UnknownSOAPSo this is a somewhat poor recording of Patrick Flegel’s (of Women) other band Fels-Naptha, playing an unknown song live. And though it’s tough to hear, Fels-Naptha shows a lot of promise in this song: the guitars have the same kind of cut and thrust exhibited in most Women songs, but with the viciousness turned way up (in this respect, reminiscent of the Hot Snakes). You can barely hear the vocals, but the drums, bass, and guitars are enough. I loved the somber geometry of the guitar lines on Women’s “Public Strain” and the same tone—that of an instrument strung with stolen wiring—is present on this song too. I hope that Women are (or will again be) a band, but there’s no news on that yet, so take solace in this unknown thing for the time being. Fels-Naptha apparently used to have a live demo posted to their Bandcamp page, but that’s gone now, so who knows what’s happening.[Watch the video of this performance here]UPDATE: Someone kindly left a link in the comments to another video of a Fels-Naptha performance. Here is the band playing a song (maybe) entitled "Blood Play" in what looks like a very nice dining room.FURTHER UPDATE: Another someone also very kindly left a link to a new-ish video of Pat Flegel playing part of a song, in a new or renamed act called Androgynous Mind. Here it is.FURTHEST UPDATE: Also, here's another comment from Pat: "Creeps, if you live in Vancouver my new rock act “Cindy Lee” is releasing a 35 minute cassette cassette called “TATLASHEA” at the Astoria.
