Won't Stop All My Pretending

Ricardo Villalobos - Théorème d'ArchimèdeArchimedes' ScrewThere was a draft of an update for the game of Life that included an extension of the main board that folded out and allowed play to follow an alternate route. The extension was called the Path of Dissipation, and included stops or achievements like: Backpacking through Europe, Internet Start-Up, Home Brewery, Ph.D. in Nicktoons, Daytrader, and Making It in L.A. The Path of Dissipation was topographically complex, with many folds, valleys, mountains, abysses, and whirlpools built right into the cardboard surface. After focus groups deemed this draft "too realistic," "shitty," and "depressing," and after several participants made remarks to the effect that they were going to have to go home and reevaluate their own actual lives, Hasbro decided to scrap the update and instead add a few references to newer consumer products and recent reality television shows.[Buy Thé au Harem d'Archimède]
