Black Mountain - Heart of Snow

"Heart of Snow" has the feel of a lost proto-English epic poem, like it should be Beowulf's sequel, or at least something popular from the time before English acquired the features like indefinite articles or abstract nouns. Dramatic, simple, wondrous, all within the first minute and a half. Amber Webber's voice is so soft and warm, but so direct, it's hard to guess, if you haven't heard this song before, that there are monstrous turns taken later on, especially when Amber is, at first, laying down these sweet and tender grievances about valleys, snow, and wings. I forgot about this song for six years, and remembered it tonight, mostly because of that voice.[Buy Black Mountain]
