The Softies - Sleep Away Your TroublesOne the slowest (but prettiest) guitar solos you'll hear outside of a Low song. Rose Melberg's whisper-vocals are sweet, but that sweetness is tempered by the lyrics she's singing ("If I beg you, will you smother me?" is the first line) and the anemic feel of the two accompanying electric guitars. Jen Sbragia's voice is the other major constituent of this song, and it doubles the depth and breathiness of Melberg's to form a juggernaut of pretty, sotto voce lamentation. "Sleep Away Your Troubles" is a good song specifically for rainy days when your spouse has left you for an elementary school administrator two towns over who's famous for organizing the All-County Preserve Contest every spring. Or good for when your interior is caught in a hard downpour of malaise.[BUY Holiday in Rhode Island]
