Flaccid Mojo - Slow Psychics

Cherry trees in bloom at Green Lake in Seattle, Washington

Flaccid Mojo is a new project from Bjorn Copeland and Aaron Warren of Black Dice. Copeland and Warren both live in L.A. and started playing some shows together a few years ago. Those performances evolved into the songs they recorded for their debut album, which comes out June 3 on Castle Face Records.

"Slow Psychics" is a great representation of what the Flaccid Mojo album is all about: blistering sounds, heavy grooves, bewildering jams, menacing vocals, fun, weird, wild. It starts with a slow ramp-up tone into a heavy beat, then dial tone percussion, melted vocals. The percussion bounces all around. Gnarly solo comes through a couple minutes in the song. Like a beat-heavy hip hop track left too long outside, mutated and distorted. Like with their main band, it seems like Copeland and Warren are set on taking the abstract feeling of a pop song or rock song, recreating it from scratch, and making it their own.
