Soccer Mommy, who released one of the best albums of 2018 with "Clean," announced her second full-length album, "color theory," will be released on Feb. 28 through Loma Vista Recordings. Two singles from 2019, “yellow is the color of her eyes” and “lucy” will be included on the album.
“color theory” is divided into three thematic sections, coded by color: blue for melancholy; yellow for illness; and gray for loss and death.
The first single from the album is “circle the drain,” which feels like a classic Soccer Mommy song, in that it’s wildly catchy and Sophie Allison sings in a confessional way about being caught in a difficult moment. “Hey, I’ve been falling apart these days/split open/watching my heart/go around and around/round and around/circle the drain/I’m going down,” she sings on the chorus. And later, “I think there’s mold in my brain/spreading down/all the way through/my heart and my body.” Allison is so good at delving into and articulating those experiences of feeling trapped or paralyzed by sadness.
