Bandshell - Peel It (Hour String)
Bandshell comes recommended by the very good (and very weird) Old Apparatus. Reminiscent in some ways of Koen Holtkamp's solo work, Bandshell's music has the same perfectionistic sheen where you can tell each sound has been worked on, tweaked, developed until it fits into the arc of the song. Bandshell belongs to the small circle of groups that make music seemingly designed to be listened to (on headphones) at night in parking lots, empty train/subway stations, or anywhere that overhead lights are on and illuminating nothing (or nothing good, at least). Every time I hear music like this, I think of the cover of Tim Hecker's "Mirages," which, besides being a great album in its own, had incredible artwork that totally evokes the same feelings of weird isolation and sympathy for the inanimate.[Download Bandshell's EP here]
